Comment éviter l’apparition des taches pigmentaires cet été ?

How to prevent pigmentation spots this summer?

This article is a translation of the original French article “Comment éviter l’apparition des taches pigmentaires cet été ?” and is intended for the French market. Treatments, availability and prices may differ at our London clinic.

Sun protection: your first line of defence

The sun is the number one factor in hyperpigmentation. To prevent spots from appearing or worsening:

  • Apply an SPF 50 sunscreen every morning, even if you are staying in town.

  • Reapply every 2 hours in the event of prolonged exposure or swimming.

  • Choose an anti-spot skincare product with UVA/UVB and blue light filters.

  • Wear a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses, and avoid the hottest hours (12pm–4pm).

Tip: opt for a foundation or tinted cream with high sun protection to combine correction and prevention.

A skincare routine suited to the season

Heat and UV rays sensitise the skin. Some actives can become photosensitising in summer (retinol, strong AHAs...). Instead, focus on a gentle, preventive routine:

  • In the morning:
✔️ The Antiox-Glow C15 Serum to neutralise free radicals
✔️ The Age Reverse Peptide Cream to combat the oxidative stress caused by sun exposure
    ✔️ SPF 50 sun protection

  • In the evening:
    ✔️ A gentle cleanser
✔️ A regulating serum (tranexamic acid, bakuchiol)
✔️ A soothing or anti-inflammatory cream (liquorice extract, niacinamide)

Bonus: 1 to 2 times a week, use a gentle enzymatic or chemical exfoliant to stimulate cell renewal (avoid grainy scrubs).

Beware of these common mistakes

  • Using perfumes or essential oils on exposed facial skin

  • Applying skincare based on strong acids without UV protection

  • Exposing yourself to the sun after hair removal or a recent aesthetic treatment

What if spots appear despite everything?

Even with good prevention, spots can appear. Don't panic: autumn is the ideal time to start targeted treatments.

The depigmenting peel

Exfoliating peels (AHA or TCA) stimulate skin renewal, fade spots, refine skin texture and reveal a more even complexion. They can be carried out as a course for optimal results. Ideal for: sun spots, dull complexion, uneven skin texture.

Protocol: Around 4 sessions depending on the indication.

LaseMD, a gentle fractional laser

LaseMD is a non-ablative fractional laser treatment. It creates micro-channels in the epidermis and allows targeted actives (vitamin C, tranexamic acid...) to be infused deep into the skin. It is effective for lightening spots, improves texture and boosts cell regeneration. Ideal for: melasma, sun spots, tired skin, signs of ageing.

Protocol: 3 sessions spaced 1 month apart.
